The Adelaide Showground Solar Project is the largest rooftop PV array, and the largest completed Solar Power project in Australia to date, with a power rating of 1.0MWAC. This project is also the first MW-class industrial-scale rooftop PV plant in Australia, as well as the country’s first commercial installation of First Solar Cd-Te thin film technology. First Solar is the largest thin film PV manufacture in the world, with annual production approaching 4GW in 2011.

The result of an Alliance Partnership between the commercial team at Solar Shop Australia Pty Ltd (now Commsolar) and Built Environs Pty Ltd, the award winning South Australian project builder, the project was completed 2 months ahead of schedule, and on budget. By mid-August 2009 all 12,720 solar modules were installed. This was achieved despite the Principal’s requirement that all works be conducted around an ongoing annual programme of events and activities at one of South Australia’s busiest venues, which receives more than 1 million visitors per year. The site is now live and generating power. It will produce more than 1400MWh per annum, and offset approximately 1400 Tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Solar Shop Australia and Built Environs worked closely together with the client and project stakeholders to bring this historic project to practical completion. The Solar Power system is a flagship project for the State and the National PV industry. Commsolar looks forward to delivering many more such MW solar generator infrastructure in the future.
